Busy Face Painting Holiday Season

I've been very busy this holiday season face painting around central Virginia.

Some of the areas I've been face painting and tattoing in are: Fredericksburg, Ruther Glen, Glen Allen, Richmond, Ashland, Bealeton, Stafford, Dumfries, King George, Ladysmith and Spotsylvania.

I've been having a blast. Believe it or not (I cannot believe it as I'm booked prior and after), I'm still available on New Year's Eve. So, if you are having a New Year's Eve celebration or First Night event and want to book me for it, I'm still open. Drop me an email.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season. Thank you to all that have hired me this past year. Best wishes for a prosperous, safe and happy New Year.

A Super Hero Party

Happy 4th Birthday to Aidan!

I had a great time painting Aidan and all his friends for his super hero birthday party at Romp 'N Roll in Glen Allen (Virginia Center). The staff at Romp 'N Roll where terrific and even jumped in to get their faces painted along with a couple of the parents.

Faces painted included: spiderman, batman, lots of butterflies, puppy dogs, flowers and some swirls.

I definitely enjoyed myself and the kids were wonderful.

The Holidays and Face Painting

The holiday season and all the celebrations are upon us. So, what do you do for entertainment?

Think face painting.

You'd be surprised just how awesome a face painting party can be. Just for kids? Hardly so.

Here's an example of what can happen. I start face painting with one child which picks their design very quickly. As the design comes to life on that child, kids and adults start getting excited. All of a sudden, I will have several kids hovering over me as I paint and asking, "Can you paint this or that?"

If I don't get an adult for a face painting, the adults start to drift toward me once the temporary glitter tattoos come out.

Both kids and adults that are at the party are now socializing with a buzz. They are checking out all the different face painting designs and tattoos. It is just plain fun.

Here is a recent testimonial that I received regarding a Halloween birthday party.

"Colleen - Thank you again! The girls had a wonderful time and your artistic talents were the highlight of the party. The girls are still talking about it and many of the parents asked for your card! They were very impressed!! You truly exceeded all my expectations. Thank you for making Skyler's birthday celebration so special. She already told me she wants you back for her party next year! :-) Jessica Bradley, Fredericksburg, VA"

So, if you have a holiday party or celebration coming up soon, remember to hire Fantasy Face Painting for your event. Face painting is enjoyed by everyone.

Happy Holidays from your central Virginia face painter!

Meadow Highland Games and Celtic Festival 2009

The Celtic Festival was a blast this past weekend even though Saturday was a wash out with the pouring rain and wind. I loved hearing the music, bagpipers and wares. The highland dancers were across from me and did a wonderful job. They all looked so lovely in their outfits.

Here are some pictures including a cute fox. The little boy had purchased a fox tail and wanted his face to match. Funny.

RIP My Business Tent

Well, it was a sad day for me today. I did not get to face paint at the Bowling Green Harvest Festival. Why? My tent got blown around during set up and one of the legs broke off.

May my business tent rest in peace.

Hopefully, I will have better weather and better luck next weekend when I'm at the Richmond Celtic Festival.

Special Hello Kitty Face

This face painting design was created for a client with a Hello Kitty costume. The ears were left off of the design because the costume has the ears. For those without the ears, I can easily paint them on with either the bow or a flower for Hello Kitty.

I'm currently scheduling private face painting sessions during the Halloween season within my home studio. So, if you're located in central Virginia, contact me for your personal face painting.

Halloween Devil Face

Halloween season is here. I hope to be adding some great faces to the blog throughout October. Above is my devil face painting design. I've painted this with and without a mustache and teeth. It's always fun to see the kids growl once the face is complete.

Hartwood Days Fun

I think this photo is awesome! What a laugh we all had. This sweet 2 year old girl wanted to be painted as Sponge Bob; however when it came time to be painted, she got a little shy. So, we ended up with not one but three Sponge Bob's. It's the Sponge Bob family.

Fun at Fredericksburg Academy

These cuties were my last three paintings for the day. They were missing the beginnings of a play. I let them know that they would get special spaces on my web and blog pages.

I had a lot of fun over at Fredericksburg Academy and they've asked me back for next year. I can't wait!

Celtic Designs

This design was painted for the Freelance Star in Fredericksburg. They requested that I paint something Celtic to tie into my article which also highlights my Irish genealogy hobby. This is what I came up with. I'm sure their pictures came out a lot better.

Painting the Weekends Away

I am having a blast painting my weekends away. I've been all over central Virginia lately.

Last weekend I was in Locust Grove at a birthday party. Young and old were getting glitter tattoos and faces painted. I had a great time with the Pate's. Thanks for having me.

I also got to attend the McMurren Family Reunion in Fredericksburg. The music and dance contests were great; and even though it rained a bit, we were all dry under the pavillion at Pratt Park. I got to paint many butterflies, a tucan, a cheetah, a panda, some fire cats, some pokemon characters and many more. Fun was had by all. I just love it when the kids are yelling, "You were awesome!" as they are leaving. That's why I love my job!!!

I'll be heading out this weekend to another family reunion down in Hopewell at Crystal Lake. I'm looking forward to some more fun. I've definitely got to take some more pictures. It's so difficult to pause when the lines are long to snap a pic but I have to try.

If you need a face painter, give me a call. I've still got a few dates open in August although not many. Drop me an email or give me a call. I'll be happy to face paint at your next event.

I'm looking into purchasing some temporary tattoo paints. I'll keep everyone posted on this new and exciting development.

Creative Face Painting Requests

I love getting interesting requests when face painting. Kids are extremely creative.

I was at a birthday party the other day when I was asked to paint a face with half of Pooh Bear and the other half as Tigger.

I think it looked cute.

Oriental Trading Co. Face Paints Recalled

See link from government here: http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2009/NEW02015.html
and a picture of the product here: http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/cosadv.html.

Definitely a reminder to all artists and parents that only FDA approved cosmetic paints, powders and glitters should be used on our bodies.

Fantasy Face Painting only uses FDA approved non-toxic and hypoallergenic paints, powders and glitters. Yes, these can get pricey but the health and safety of everyone I paint on is worth it.

Glitter Tattoos Available Now

I'm so excited to be offering glitter tattoos. The above picture is courtesy of Silly Farm. I should have these for Ladysmith Day on May 16.

What are glitter tattoos?

They are tattoos applied to the body with latex-free body glue (FDA approved and skin safe) and sprinkled with your choice of cosmetic glitter (variety of colors) using the above stencils. They are waterproof (great for pool parties and summer fun).

How long do they last?

They last 3-5 days but I have heard them last even longer. If you need it off sooner, just take some rubbing alcohol or mineral oil to it. It will come off using either one of these.

If you're planning a summer party, BBQ, picnic or pool party, book it through Fantasy Face Painting and have everyone sparkling with great glitter tattoos!

StarBlend Cake Makeup by Mehron

I'm enjoying this brand of cake makeup for face painting. I have an assortment of paints with me when I work. I like having multiple options.

In fact, I was painting at a recent event when some of my other name-brand paints started to melt in the hot sun. I was quite thankful to have my Mehron with me. It held up wonderfully.

I have used this cake makeup both wet and in powder form. It's superb and I won't leave home without my Mehron.

Remember, if you have an event coming up, contact me (info@fantasyfacepainting.net). I'll be happy to paint at it.

A Popular Rose

and a snake

Please keep in mind that these pictures were a bit smudged. I had painted them earlier in the day prior to a scheduled party. So, these paintings lasted most of the day and an event. I think they held up pretty good.

I like to show up with some paintings on me. Usually I paint on my cheeks. One side is girly and one side is for the boys. Then, if I have some time, I will paint some pictures on my arms. This helps open up the imaginations of some kids and they can see what can be painted.
